Stag Cove
Moderate, approximately 2 mi hike, up and back. Easy to find. Parking right off the pavement. Not heavily used and close to Tamarisk Grove Campground. Drive east on highway 78 from Tamarisk Grove for about .8 of a mile. Turn right (south) on the jeep road. If you have a car you can park here. With 4-wheel drive, or high clearance, you can go another 200 yards and park at the end of the road. Fairly easy hiking going up the canyon. After about a mile the canyon gets narrower and you’ll have to negotiate the boulders to continue. If on a light hike this is a good place turn around. If you are up for some more challenging bouldering you can continue up the canyon. Suggest if you do so to bring a companion and plenty of water. Lots of ocotillo, cholla, barrel cactus, jojoba, agaves. Look for jackrabbit and coyote prints on the sandy parts of the trail.
