Borrego Springs High School Students Visit Mine Wash Site

On December 2nd and 3rd, students from Borrego Springs High School were given a tour of the Mine Wash cultural site. The 18 students are taking a credit elective in interpretive education and will acquire certifications as Interpretive Host and Interpretive Guide after successful completion of their one-year program. The tours were organized by Dave Duncan and led by CDAS member John Downing, who is an archaeology technician and site steward.

“Leading these tours and informing the students about the lifeway of the Kumeyaay peoples who lived here long ago is so rewarding. They demonstrate a high level of interest and ask pertinent and penetrating questions,” said John.

Some of the students from last year’s class, who had also previously toured the site, have gone on to participate in the internship program with Anza-Borrego Desert State Park this year.
