Mother Nature decided to water the plants again!

While the major "bloom" areas along Henderson Canyon Road and Coyote Canyon may be starting to fade the wet weather has "greened" the Anza-Borrego Desert with cactuses blooming and wild flowers popping up here and there. At the southern end of Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, "far from the maddening crowds”, verdant vistas and a variety of wild flowers can be seen on the Dolomite Mine Trail. The 1.2 mile, up and back, fairly easy hike, can be accessed heading south on County Road S2, about 30 miles south of Scissors Crossing, at mile 53.3. Look for the sign, east as you head south, at the jeep road entrance, drive half a mile (be careful in the soft sand, but we made it in a Nissan Sentra) to the parking area. Walk along the jeep road from the parking area about a half mile to the abandoned mine. The Ocotillos are fluffy green and the orange blooms look ready to pop. Flowering barrel cactus, prickly pear, brittle bush, monkey paw, desert lavender and jojoba.  While the days have been seasonably comfortable still make sure to bring plenty of water as the low humidity can dry you out on even a cool day.
