Culp Valley
With an elevation over 3,000ft and stunning views, Culp Valley is considered by many to be one of the best free camping locations in Anza-Borrego Desert State Park! The established, yet primitive, camping area north of S22 offers a bathroom, secluded camping spots, and numerous near by hikes. The California Riding and Hiking Trail cuts through the area and provides miles of hiking or riding opportunities, including a spectacular hike into Hellhole Canyon and on to the Park visitor center.
Additional hiking and camping opportunities are available south of S22 by entering on Jasper Trail road or the lower entrance onto Old Culp Valley Road. Do a little research and you will recognize amazing pegmatite dykes, 150 year old ranching history, springs teaming with wildlife, American Indian history, Pinyon pines, and Cottonwood trees. And on those days when Borrego Springs seems a bit warm, you can count of the temperatures being cooler at Culp Valley!
