Dolomite Mine Trail
Have a true 'Hands On' experience with this hike as you sift your hands through the fine white powder formed millions of years ago when metamorphic rock was covered by marine sediment. Remains from the 1930s mine still stand strong and frame an impressive view of the Carrizo Badlands.
The mine is located in the Coyote Mountains on a south reaching section of Anza-Borrego Desert State Park. The entire region presents a fantastic display of geologic features including marble, magnesium, calcium, and granitic rocks. Consider making a sunrise trip to the mine and position yourself at the Mine Peak benchmark to watch the sun cast its magic across the badlands. You will be treated to a truly spectacular view.
A variety of camping options are available in the area including Bow Willow, a developed camping area managed by ABDSP, Aqua Caliente 18 miles north/west, and lots of dispersed camping opportunities in between.
