Fish Creek

Fish Creek wash is located at the eastern edge of Anza-Borrego Desert State Park south of HWY 78.  Considered by many to be a geologic wonderland it is often used as an outdoor classroom for university field trips.  Spiraling canyons, exposed fossil reefs, wind caves, elephant knees and an elephant tree are some of the gems you will find as you explore the micro habitats of Fish Creek.  Dispersed camping is available in a variety of locations however many people opt to stay at the Fish Creek camp a mile from Split Mountain road.  Areas you may wish to explore in detail include the Fish Creek Mountains, Vallecito Mountains, Wind Caves, the North Fork Wash, Layer Cake, Sandstone Canyon, and Loop Wash.  In other words, give yourself a few days, if not a lifetime, to explore all Fish Creek has to offer!
