      This June I will be participating in the Race Across America. A 930 mile trek from Oceanside Pier, in Southern California to Durango, Colorado. The Race Across the West is the first leg of the event.

I’ve lived in Borrego Springs four years, and I’m now a Junior at the high school. In my Freshman year, I was asked if I wanted to be on the golf team. Hesitant at first, I soon realized that golf really is the thing here in Borrego.

I have been visiting Anza-Borrego Desert State Park and the Borrego Springs region since I was 14.

Visitors come to Borrego Springs to see something they’ve never seen before or learn something they didn’t know before. What they want is the same as I want in a new environment – a unique story, a story of a place not yet experienced.

“Ten years ago, I discovered the town of Borrego Springs, and my life changed forever. I had always wanted to live in a small town, with other creative people and nature lovers, but I just didn’t think it was possible in crowded Southern California.

“Back in 1980 at Clark Dry Lake and via radio telescope array, we discovered millisecond pulsars, highly compressed and rapidly rotating stars (up to thousands of spins per second) outside our solar system but still within the Milky Way Galaxy.

Only a leisurely two-hour drive from downtown San Diego, the desert community of Borrego Springs is known for having some of the best stargazing conditions in the U.S.
