Wilson Trail
Near the top of Montezuma grade, along the rugged old 4WD Culp Valley road, past the mountain lion sign, lies a 10 mile out and back hike along Pinyon Ridge to Wilson Peak. The trail head is located at a pullout with room for a few vehicles and a vertical sign marking the start. The trail itself is relatively easy to follow as it ascends two ridges and weaves it way through unique geologic formations, pigmatite dykes, yuccas, and juniper trees. Due to it's length, many people opt for an overnight hike vs a day hike. Either way be sure to carry plenty of water and dress for the weather. Wind at the top of Wilson peak, coupled with the elevation, create a deceptively cooler springtime hike. A nice write up can be found HERE. Remember to sign the log book at the top!
